Cochin Carnival – 13 to 31 December 2015
The people of Kerala celebrate all its festivals with a great deal.Fort Kochi is the center of Cochin Carnival.The Christmas Papanji which will be installed at Fort Kochi will be alighted on New Year’s eve which will welcome 2015. The Carnival 2014-2015 rally will be held on January 1st from 3.00 PM onwards.
History of Cochin Carnival
The Portuguese welcomed the New Year with gaiety and fervor.The tradition of partying and merry making has been continuing ever since, the year 1984 witnessed a revival in the festivities.
Cochin Carnival – Description
Participation, Peace, Progress, Adventure and Environment – these are the five major factors that contribute to the essence of this Festival.When the Kerala Cochin Carnival is celebrated in the meeting ground, a large number of people dressed in brightly colored clothes, the sight is a visual delight.
People enjoy themselves by participating in various activities and games. Many competitions like Beach Bike Race, Beach Volleyball, Sea Swimming and Beach Football are held in the Cochin Carnival.
This colourful festival attracts the large number of visitors on New year day.The unique feature of this festival is that even though it is celebrated in the south Indian state of Kerala, north Indian dances are very much an integral part of the procession.
